At the end of the day most of us grow weed to produce the highest yield possible. So, it makes perfect sense that we would be interested in which strains will give us with the highest yields possible. I have experience with multiple strains currently available on the market and will share my thoughts on those in this article. That said, my picks for the highest yielding strain would have to be the following.

The marijuana strains that produce the highest yields are northern lights, white widow, amnesia haze, gold leaf, sour diesel, critical mass, and Bruce Banner. Please note, these selections are in no particular order. Some strains will do much better growing outdoors while most others do well indoors.

As mentioned above, these strains are in no particular order however, I do have my favorites. In this article, I will go through each of these strains and discuss what you can do to help improve the yield you end-up harvesting from your weed plants.

Does Indica or Sativa Yield More at Harvest?

Before we get into specific strains, let’s talk about the yields you can get from an indica plant vs a sativa plant.

In general, a sativa plant will produce higher yields than an indica plant. Sativas have bigger, broader stems and canopies so the plants can naturally grow much larger buds.

That’s not to say that an indica won’t give you a large yield because some indicas do produce high yields. It’s more about the size of the plant. Smaller plants equal smaller buds – the bigger the plant, the bigger the buds.

Nowadays, most strains are a mix of both indica and sativa so you will want to pay attention to that when purchasing seeds or clones. If you are interested in the highest yields possible, then go with seeds that have a higher percentage of sativa (although that’s not always the case, keep reading).

In random order, here are some strains I have had luck with.

Northern Lights

After telling you how you need to focus on plants with higher percentages in the sativa strain, now I am going to tell you about an almost-pure indica plant that is one of my favorite high-yielding weed plants.

Northern lights seeds were easy for me to access and therefore (by default), I became particularly familiar with them.

Northern lights will do well grown outdoors or indoors. Just as with any plant, the proper lighting, temperature and watering need to take place.

You can expect this 90% indica plant to grow at least 4’ tall. The number of buds produced for an indica plant would be considered high yield but, for a sativa, would be considered average.

With big thick buds, you can expect to grow up to 450 grams of bud per sq meter, assuming all growing conditions have been optimal.

I recommend everyone try growing northern lights. For Seed prices check them out here!

I just posted a review on Northern Lights seeds that can be found here!

Amnesia Haze

Amnesia haze is another fantastic strain that can be grown indoors or out. Amnesia Haze is what the doctor ordered! This easy to grow hybrid is approximately 80% sativa and is a pleasure to smoke. This will be your go-to when getting together with friends and want a high that will wear-off in a decent amount of time.

Amnesia haze is by no means one of the monster-type sativas that will grow as tall as a house! It will however get extremely tall if you allow it to. If you grow this one indoors, you will need a very tall grow tent or grow room.

You can expect to yield well over 500 grams per sq meter of amnesia haze. If you are in the right climate for growing marijuana, I would recommend taking this plant outside if you can.

Unless you do some LST or topping techniques, amnesia haze might be too tall for an indoor grow.

White Widow

Here I go again with another indica dominant strain. I could just picked a handful of sativa dominant strains, but I want to give you the value you deserve. I also want to offer you suggestions on strains that I have grown and had success with. So, lets look at white widow now.

If you are looking for something that will help you chill and relax, then white widow is the strain for you.

White widow is an average height plant which means it’s great for indoors and outdoors however, a lot of indoor growers prefer this plant to others.

It has a THC content of around 18% or higher and will produce over 500 grams of bud per sq meter.

If you had to only choose one strain from this article for growing indoors, I would choose white widow.

You can check out the price of white widow seeds here

Gold Leaf

Here I go again, promoting an indica dominant strain. Gold leaf is well-known for being a top producer. maxing out somewhere around 650 grams per sq meter of plant canopy. Wow, that’s 23 ounces which is incredible!

Even though this plant is indica dominant at 60/40%, it still reaches a height of up to 8’ if you allowed. This would be much too high for most indoor growers, so it’s probably best if you try growing gold leaf outdoors. Unless you do some LST, then you can grow a massive canopy at a much lower height when growing indoors.

The huge buds on gold leaf plants (when cured and smoked) will give you a peaceful, euphoric high. Great for treating all kinds of issues.

Gold leaf has a high THC content at approximately 21%.

Sour Diesel

Alright, now back to a sativa dominant strain. Sour diesel is well-known around the world. It’s a popular seller with seed retailers. It’s easy to see why, too.

Sour diesel grows fairly tall – somewhere between 6’ to 7’ is common. This almost excludes this plant out from growing indoors in grow tents however, a grow room would work just fine with minimal LST needed.

Another huge producer, sour diesel will produce somewhere between 450 to 650 grams per sq meter. Of course, ideal growing conditions need to be met.

With sour diesel, you are looking at a THC level or around 18% which is a great amount.

If you decide to grow sour diesel, just be aware that this strain gets its name from the pungent diesel smell it has when dried and cured. It still tastes delicious when smoked, however.

Critical Mass

Since I have been flip-flopping throughout this article on sativa vs indica strains, here is another indica dominant strain for you.

I am not sure how critical mass got its name, but I wouldn’t be surprised if it was because of the massive size of the buds on these plants.

With the right conditions, you can expect to yield 750 grams per sq meter and more. That’s a ton of pot!

Smokers be forewarned when using critical mass that a little goes a long way and a lot will leave you couch-locked watching tv all night or falling asleep in no time at all!

Something for you to be aware of when growing critical mass is because of the size of the buds, you have to keep your humidity in check. If you are growing outdoors, you can’t control that but indoors be wary as the buds can easily grow mold if the humidity is too high for too long.

Bruce Banner

Last, but definitely not least, Bruce Banner is my favorite sativa of all. With a ratio of approximately 80% sativa to 20% indica, Bruce Banner is almost all sativa and the effects show that.

If you want to get high and feel fantastic doing so, this strain is for you. Enjoy Bruce Banner before working around the house or just about anything where creativity is required.

This article is about high yields however and Bruce Banner delivers there as well. You can expect to yield over 600 grams per sq meter and most likely quite a bit more if you are growing outdoors.

Bruce Banner will grow 9’ easily outdoors and if not trained in the vegetative stage indoors, the plant will outgrow a grow tent easily.

With the huge growth potential of this plant, your yield will always produce enough bud to keep you happy.

The THC level of Bruce Banner can be as high as 29% – not much else to say about that other than wow!

If you are interested in trying to grow Bruce Banner, you can find some seeds here.

What Else Can You Do to Produce Higher Marijuana Yields?

Producing high yields is not always the result of excellent genetics. There are a few other things you as a grower can do to ensure your plants are growing to their optimum level and maybe even beyond. Here are a few things you can do.

One of the best things you can do for your weed plants is to provide them the right fertilizer at the right time. You could just let them grow without any fertilizer but providing some will give you better results.

There are fertilizers for the vegetative stage and the flowering stage of a weed plant’s life cycle. There are also fertilizers to help plump up the size of the buds which I also recommend.

Make sure you are giving your plants all types of fertilizer following the directions on the bottle. The only thing I would suggest you do differently is to use a bit less fertilizer than the suggested amounts on the bottle when you first start giving it to your plants.

You can even buy fertilizer kits like these ones on I Love Growing Marijuana.

Larger pots are another way to help increase the yield of your weed plants. Have you ever heard the saying ‘bigger roots bigger fruits?’ It applies when growing marijuana. Make sure the pot you use is as large as possible.

Weed is an extremely root-heavy plant and will quickly become root bound if you don’t provide enough room for growth. I would go with at minimum a 5-gallon fabric or other type pot.

If you can get your hands on 10-gallon fabric pots, then do so. Here are some larger fabric pots on Amazon.

Grow medium gets mentioned occasionally, but I sometimes wonder if growers really understand the importance of a good grow medium. Using just a standard potting soil will not allow your plants to grow to their maximum potential.

Use a medium such as coco coir or if you use soil make sure to have plenty of perlite mixed in to ensure water flows easily. You want water and nutrients from each watering to flow right through the whole pot, reaching all roots and out the bottom if there is excess.

If nutrients sit in the soil and are left to accumulate, your plants will go through nutrient burn/lock and you will end up with sub-poor or dead weed plants.

I will link to some of my other articles on these topics at the end of this article.

Watering is an important part of the whole life cycle of growing weed. You need to water enough, but not too much. Frequency is important and so is using water with the correct PH level.

You could just use your tap water and 9 times out of 10, you would be fine. What if however, you learned a bit about the water you are providing and how it will affect the yield of your plants? Again, I will link to an article on this topic below. Make sure to check it out.

Conclusion

To conclude, quickly I want to mention that yes, sativa plants in general should provide you with the biggest yields. However, hybrids are taking over the marijuana seed world. This means just about any seed you get unless it is 100% indica should provide you with a big enough harvest to keep you happy for a while.

I do personally recommend the strains recommended in this article. I believe if you try growing any of these strains mentioned, you will have just as much luck as me in creating a huge yield. All conditions must be right, but I trust you will take the time to ensure you are growing your plants to the best of your abilities.

I also pointed out in this article how other factors come into play when trying to increase the yield and you should definitely take those factors into account as well.

Thanks for reading. Good luck with your grow!
