If you’re lucky enough to live in Canada as I do, you’re hopefully aware that cannabis has been legalized throughout the country. You can now grow up to four plants in your home at a time and you can visit a local cannabis store to purchase all sorts of varieties of marijuana – CBD, extracts, topicals and edibles. For anyone interested in the marijuana culture, it’s a dream come true! You can even order marijuana online.

Yes, you can mail weed in Canada. There are specific rules and regulations pertaining to the mailing of marijuana in Canada. 30 grams of marijuana is the maximum that can be shipped at a time. The weed being shipped must have been purchased legally through a licensed vendor or grown in a home legally.

Of course, there are more rules and regulations you must adhere to – to ensure you mail weed legally in Canada. As someone who’s interested in marijuana, I wanted to relay pertinent information that someone like myself might be searching for. So, in this article, I’ll do my best to provide you with answers to popular questions on this topic.

Let’s get started!

How Do You Ship Cannabis Legally in Canada?

Whether you’re a licensed marijuana vendor or a private citizen, there are rules regarding shipping weed throughout the country.

To mail cannabis legally in Canada, you should be aware of the following:

  • Cannabis can be shipped by a licensed marijuana distributor and it can be shipped by private citizens of legal age to adults of legal age.
  • Currently, when it comes to extracts, topicals and edibles, only licensed distributors may mail them to adults of legal age.

If you’re shipping cannabis you’ve grown at home and are gifting to a friend of legal age, don’t forget that 30 grams is the maximum amount you can mail. The packaging mustn’t indicate the contents and it must also be childproof.

Can You Ship Cannabis to Different Provinces?

Yes, you can ship marijuana across provincial borders. The only caveat is no marijuana plants or seeds can be shipped into Manitoba or Quebec.

If the package you are sending is traveling through the province, it sounds like that’s okay as long as it’s not being delivered to an address in that province.

Can You Ship Cannabis to the United States?

Legally you cannot ship cannabis to the United States. It’s against the law in Canada and the United States.

I wouldn’t even try as it’s illegal to mail cannabis out of Canada. You need to also consider that the rules and regulations in the USA vary widely between federal laws and state laws. One way or another, your package is most likely to be confiscated and you could end up with criminal charges against you.

Can Marijuana Seeds Be Imported legally into Canada?

Trying to find proper information on this question was nearly impossible. As you’re probably already aware, you can purchase weed seeds from countries all over the world and they will ship them to you.

That doesn’t mean the seeds will make it to you, however. My research indicates that some individuals have their seeds confiscated by CBSA (Canadian Border Services Agency).

My research also concludes that many individuals in fact do receive their shipments of weed seeds from other countries. I think it boils down to the quality of packaging a seed supplier provides that ultimately decides whether your seeds get to you or not.

There are many reputable seed suppliers that ship out high volumes of seeds monthly that you might want to give a try.

I Love Growing Marijuana is an excellent option for seeds from out of Country or if you prefer to order from a Canadian vendor, then why not check out Crop King Seeds.

Currently, the only Canadian provinces not allowing the shipment of seeds to their residents is Manitoba and Quebec. So, if you live in one of those provinces, don’t even try. If you do live in Manitoba or Quebec, you could try your local cannabis retailer and see if they stock seeds.

Does Canada Post Check Mail for Drugs?

Of course, this is just my own ‘best guess’ or assumption because I just don’t know for sure.

I would expect if an employee at Canada Post suspects a package is containing an illegal substance, then that package would be checked.

I don’t think the postal service screens packages being shipped within the country as they and CBSA do when a package arrives to the country.

That said, it’s still important to mail cannabis in the proper packing to ensure it arrives safely to its destination.

Licensed cannabis retailers are already mailing in the proper packaging however, if you are gifting a friend with some of your grown at home marijuana, you should invest in some sort of self-sealing scent blocking mailer.

If you find yourself mailing Cannabis, ensure the packing doesn’t imply what the contents contain. It must be unmarked and child resistant.

Conclusion

To conclude, I just wanted to let you know that I wrote this article to inform at a high level of some of the mailing regulations.

As stated at the beginning of the article:
