**Disclaimer: Before I continue with this article, I feel it very important to state that I in no way condone growing marijuana illegally. If you are underage or marijuana is illegal where you live, this article is not for you. I am writing this article for people of legal age in an area where growing marijuana is legal. For example, I live in Canada and can legally grow up to 4 marijuana plants in my household**

If you are looking for ways to hide growing weed plants from parents or just about anyone else, I think I can help give you some great ideas on what to do. I am fully aware of the stigma people have when it comes to marijuana growing and usage. In time, it will become accepted just like the consumption of alcohol. Until then, however, some of you might not want others knowing your business.

So, how can you hide weed plants from parents or anyone else? Weed can be grown indoors in grow tents that look like portable clothes closets. Weed can also be grown outside among other plants to be hidden. Adding trees and fencing for privacy while growing weed is another good option.

Those, of course, aren’t the only ways to hide the fact that you are growing weed. As well, different people will have different reasons for wanting to hide what they are growing. First, we will look at why you might want to hide your weed plants from your parents and then ways you can accomplish this. The information you find in this article comes from my experience as a marijuana grower.

So, if you’re ready to learn more about successfully hiding marijuana plants, then let’s get started.

Why You Might Want to Hide Weed Plants from Your Parents

As previously mentioned, there is a stigma surrounding the growing of marijuana plants. Even if you are a 21-year old living with your parents, you must respect their wishes. However, if you just can’t resist, I understand.

  • If what people think of you, is important to you, then that’s one reason you might want to hide your weed growing endeavours.
  • Your parents would not approve even though you are an adult living at home. Let’s face it, it’s your parents house and they get to set the rules. Even if their thinking seems a bit outdated.
  • If you don’t want your weed plants stolen, then that’s almost the best reason I can think of for hiding your grow op. Don’t kid yourself if you think people won’t steal your plants, especially if they are outdoors. So, hiding them from parents or anyone else for this reason is a solid reason.
  • It just feels like the right thing to do. Not sure this falls into the stigma category (or not) but it just feels like the right thing to do. There’s nothing wrong with that either. You just don’t need to advertise to people what you are doing. That’s how I feel and maybe you do as well.

Ways to Hide Weed Plants

You’re either growing marijuana indoors or outdoors so we will discuss ideas for hiding your plants indoors or out.

Hiding Weed Plants Indoors

If your goal is to hide your grow-op in a home where others live, you have a nice challenge ahead. Here are some ideas to solve your problem.

  • False rooms and spaces are a great way to hide plants. You just need to be creative. Places to think about are closets seldom used, garages, under stairs in basement or garage, furnace rooms are a few places to consider.
  • Consider using materials such as gyproc, rigid insulation or an old tent to construct a small grow space.
  • When constructing these grow areas, always consider light leakage which you want to avoid otherwise your space will be compromised. Consider how it looks, does it blend in or stick out like a sore thumb? Also, consider a power source for lighting, a fan, ventilation and possibly a heater.
  • This might be the best and easiest idea for hiding weed plants indoors. Grow your weed in a 5gallon pail. You heard me a 5-gallon pail. Growers that do this are calling it a space bucket.
    • I haven’t done this myself, but I plan on doing so in the next year. You set up a light attached to the lid with a possible heat source and start growing.
    • There is definitely more involved to setting this up, but what a fantastic idea.
    • I am going to write an article about building your own space bucket next and will link to it HERE when completed.
  • Lastly is your hiding space for weed plants fire-safe? Don’t underestimate the chance of a fire starting up. Take it seriously when creating this space and be safe.

Hiding Weed Plants Outdoors

Probably the hardest thing to do is hide your plants outside. Again though, you just need to be a bit creative and this shouldn’t be too big of a problem. Here are some ideas.

  • Places to consider growing weed plants outdoors are but not limited to: a large garden, garden shed, among shrubs, surrounded by a wooden fence, on a deck out of sight. In a space bucket or how about an old rain barrel? Of course, if you are hiding your weed plants from parents and everyone else you need to be very creative here.
  • If you have a large garden or shrub area growing marijuana without anyone noticing in these areas can be accomplished by applying the LST growing method for your weed plants. This method is very good for limiting the height of the plant and promotes more bud growth.
    • LST stands for low stress training. Here’s how it works. Once your plants are about 6” or larger start bending the plant downward, so it is growing horizontally. As it keeps growing, maintain the horizontal position. You will need to tie the plant down as it grows.
    • By doing this you can weave the plant in and around other taller plants essentially hiding it from view.
    • This method works better for maximizing the buds that will grow rather than letting a plant grow naturally straight up.
  • If you are lucky enough to have a wood garden shed, you could easily build a hidden grow area. Just make sure know one else accesses the shed or they might be curious enough to see what the strange structure is.
    • What I like about using a shed is if you have the budget for it you could install a solar panel, battery and inverter and use that for the power source. You could probably power your lights for your weed and have extra power for radios or whatever you desire.
  • Another tried and true method for hiding weed plants outside is to grow them in trees where they won’t be found. Of course, this would have to be on your property for it to be legal. If you have an acreage or larger, then you could probably get away with this.

Hiding weed plants outdoors is all about being creative. It isn’t impossible and many people do it.

Conclusion (and Disclaimer)

Before I conclude, I want to reiterate that I in no way intend to provide tips for anyone to grow marijuana illegally. If growing marijuana is illegal where you live, then do not do it. If you are not of legal age even if it is legal to grow marijuana where you live, then do not do it.

Okay, great to get that out of the way again!

To conclude this article, I want to remind you of just a couple things you will want to consider when hiding weed plants.

  1. This one I didn’t cover yet in the article but is important for you to know. Weed plants will have a very strong and unique smell when they are flowering/budding and if you are trying to hide them you should be aware of this. It is something to consider when you pick a location to grow in.
  2. A power source is important as you will require lights, heat, a fan at minimum. You might need a ventilation system and maybe a humidifier or dehumidifier depending on your geographical location.
  3. Sativa plants typically grow very tall. If you are trying to hide that you are growing this stuff, then maybe go with an Indica plant or make sure to LST your Sativa plants.

That’s it for now. I hope I was able to provide you with some good ideas to get going on your next grow. Good luck.
